Boomers and Beyond
“Punching Out Parkinson’s”, presented by Brett Burkhart, General Manager of Fit 4 Boxing Club in Export
Join us on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:30 AM in the Mother of Sorrows Parish Social Hall to see how BOXING is helping to improve symptoms and slow progression in individuals affected by Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders!
Since opening 9 years ago, Rock Steady Boxing Pittsburgh has evaluated over 700 Parkinson’s fighters from all over western Pennsylvania in its two locations. Participants are reaping the benefits of this rigorous and emotional exercise program.
Also learn how non-contact boxing classes are great for many diverse groups, including seniors ages 60+, young adults, and children. Anyone can enjoy healthy weight loss and improved coordination and balance through this challenging but doable workout.
Boomers and Beyond is a ministry serving the “baby boomers” of Mother of Sorrows parish and the surrounding communities. Lunch and Learn sessions are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Topics are varied, reservations are not required, and sessions are free to all interested adults. Participants gather at 11:30 AM and are encouraged to bring a “brown bag” lunch and to bring a friend. Beverages are provided. Presentations follow, from 12:00-1:00 PM.
Lectio Mary Bible Study and Marian Consecration
May is special month when we honor and celebrate Mary our Queen and Mother. The MOS Office of Discipleship, Parish Bible Study groups and the Legion of Mary are coming together this spring to offer two programs to deepen our Marian devotion:
FORMED Bible Study: “Lectio Mary.” This deep, but easy-to-understand Bible Study explores Mary through the Sacred Scriptures to explain her powerful significance in the Church and our lives. This study will be offered on Wednesdays in the Social Hall, Beginning April 10 for 8 weeks and ending May 29. There will be a morning session at 9:30AM and an evening session 6:30 PM. Each session will last an hour and a half and the cost of the workbook is $5.
Marian Consecration: We will use Fr. Michael Gaitley’s “33 Days to Morning Glory” as a way to consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary. In this group, you will read a reflection about Mary and pray the Holy Rosary every day for 33 days on your own. As a group, we will meet weekly connected to the Bible Study, based on availability. We will begin Sunday, April 28 and our consecration date will be on the Feast of the Visitation, May 31.
Please email Jacob Gindhart at jgindhart@dioceseofgreensburg.org to RSVP by April 3 and mention if you would like to participate in The Bible Study, Consecration, or both. Please include if you will attend the morning or evening session of the Bible Study.
Good Grief in Breathing Room
Do you ever feel like you just need some room to breathe?! We want to
invite you to join your fellow parishioners to create that space together as we
seek to process our grief.
Mother of Sorrows Parish will hold two separate groups with Nancy
Matteuzzi, MB, BCC Pastoral Associate, beginning in April. They will each
meet for six weeks. In the seventh week, we will join together on Tuesday,
May 28 at 6:30 PM for a closing memorial service and reception.
Evening Group: Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Ave Maria Room
April 19 to May 21
Day Group: Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:30 PM in the Ave Maria Room
April 20 to May 22
It is our hope that this program will help you to acknowledge the reality of your loss, begin to process your pain, and create meaning to help you move forward. You will be led through various mourning exercises within the safe and sacred space that we create together.
For more information and to register, please call Nancy Matteuzzi at 724-733-8870 or email nmatteuzzi@dioceseofgreensburg.org.
Vacation Bible School will be held at St. Barbara Parish. Registration will begin March 31.
